Network Visibility and Discovery Service

Enterprise Network Visibility and Discovery Service

Also known as network mapping, the Enterprise Network Visibility and Discovery service inspects network assets, identifies and measures relationships between known and previously unknown network assets, including connections, routers, and firewalls. This virtual map enables network and security teams to confirm whether assets are under management control. Unmanaged assets increase the risk of intrusion and service outages.

The service compliments and supports the other DIR ESecS by providing an inventory of devices that can be subject to Network Visibility and Discovery Service, or Vulnerability and Compliance Management Services. It provides in-depth network infrastructure visibility and discovery, as well as inventory, that reflect the accurate discovery, visualization, and logical mapping of networks based on four (4) factors: network topology, address space, devices with unauthorized inbound or outbound connectivity to the Internet or sub-networks, and device fingerprints.

It is intended to meet the protection of State networks as mandated by Government Code, Chapter 2059 (TGC 2059). DIR retains authority and primary responsibility for the interface, scheduling and receives, approves, and forwards all formal deliverables (e.g., format, content, periodicity, and delivery medium) to its customers.
